Preparing for Adulthood - Care Act Factsheet

The Care Act consolidates existing adult social care statute into a single piece of law and the first phase on these reforms came into effect on 1 April 2015. The changes set out in the Care Act will have an impact on the range and quality of support available to disabled young people as they prepare for adulthood. Statutory guidance is now available, which sets out how local authorities should implement the Care Act.

The Preparing for Adulthood programme has also produced a super Guide on the links between the Care Act and the Children and Families Act - click here to take a look at the fact sheet.

Note: the National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTi) is no longer delivering the Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) programme and helpline, as the contract with the Department for Education came to an end in March 2022.
A selection of popular tools and guides from the PfA website have been added to a dedicated area on NDTi's website [here]. The PfA website will serve as a resource archive for as long as possible.
