Building Independent Lives Together (BuiLT) Project

On 17th March 2022, The Hive will be starting their 6th and final year of their Building Independent Lives Together (BuILT) project. The aim of this project is to work with families of adults with learning disabilities and/or autism to enable a greater number of people to live more independent lives. They are doing this by educating, supporting and promoting the benefits of independence, by providing support groups and training sessions for both parent carers and if appropriate, their adult children, helping them to think about and plan for the future.

The Hive Support Networks
The Hive runs a support network for parent carers called The Carers Independent Living Network (CILN) which equips parents and carers with the information, knowledge, confidence, practical information and support to help in the transition towards a more independent life for their young people.

In addition to the parent carers’ group; is the Independent Living Support Group (ILSG). If parent carers consider it appropriate, this group supports individuals with a learning disability and/or autism who may be anxious, lack the knowledge or who have never thought about their future living independently. The purpose of this group is to provide information, ambition, and confidence for those just starting their journey to independence.

If you would like to know more about either of these groups or have any questions, please contact Dominic Box at The Hive on: 0117 9614372 or dominic.box@thehiveavon.org.uk.
