The Yate Athletic Club Adaptive and Para Athletics programme continues to expand with additional sessions – now up to six each week. The sessions are all year round. Participants range from secondary aged children right through to older adults. We work with participants who have sensory, physical and learning needs.
We have a range of new equipment for fitness and a range of racing wheelchairs, running frames and seated throws; and an indoor facility for when the weather is less kind.
In the summer we offer athletics competition days for deaf schools, for the group with physical disability and also for school children with additional needs. Six of the group have now come through to compete in mainstream competition in throwing, chair racing and frame running.
Coaches are UKA qualified and have access to the facilities for run, jump and specialist throws challenges. We welcome those who are just beginning their journey .. as well as those with aspirations for International Paralympic success.

The Science Museum (London SW7 2DD) runs a variety of accessible events throughout the year for visitors who need a quieter environment to enjoy the museum.
Early Birds at the Science Museum - London
Early Birds is a sensory friendly event for families with members who need a quieter environment to enjoy the museum.
This event is suitable for those who benefit from visiting the museum free from the hustle and bustle of the general public (for example, individuals with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences).
Taking place on selected Saturdays and Sundays across the year, they open the museum exclusively before or after hours, and wherever possible will have adjusted operations and/or lowered volume levels on exhibits.
As well as exploring some of the galleries, you can enjoy a selection of fun workshops in a gallery space. There will also be quiet areas for those needing to take a break. More details on exactly what to expect on the day will be sent out in advance of each Early Birds event.
The Early Birds accessible events are completely free and suitable for families with children aged 4–15. Siblings are welcome to attend, but all children and adults attending the event will need to book.
Next Early Birds dates:-
Saturday 22nd March 2025 at 8:00am-11:00am
