‘Make Someone Welcome’ Campaign; opening doors into the community for disabled and older people living in Wiltshire
Whether you’re a gardening group or a W.I, a skate park or a chess club Wiltshire Centre for Independent Living (CIL) wants you to sign up to their #makesomeonewelcome campaign. All groups can benefit from attracting new and enthusiastic members; Wiltshire CIL wants to offer their support to Wiltshire groups so that they are able to attract disabled and older people and encourage them to come along and get involved.
Wiltshire CIL’s support will include making sure groups have the skills and understanding to welcome anybody and everybody in. This includes talks with the ‘soon to be famous’, Matt and Abbie who can share their experiences of living life to the full as a disabled person in Wiltshire – these experiences include being a regular ‘adapted’ waterskier, riding bucking broncos, getting a power chair across muddy fields when attending music festivals and taking part in assisted scuba diving. Wilts CIL will help identify disabled and older people in Wiltshire’s many small communities and encourage them to become active members of their local groups, they will also aim to link up like-minded people and organisations throughout Wiltshire, helping to get the right resources in place for groups to develop this work. Finally; they can offer free advertising in their newsletter, which goes out to over 2000 disabled and older people living throughout Wiltshire and through sign up to the social media campaign #makesomeonewelcome.
All are welcome to join the campaign; it doesn’t matter whether you have 2 or 200 members, are based in a village pub, a bingo hall or a sports centre. All groups need to do is sign up to the Make Someone Welcome campaign with a commitment to welcome disabled people into their group. Email Matt at matt@wiltshirecil.org.uk or Abbie at abbi@wiltshirecil.org.uk or phone 0300 1233 442 to find out more.
