Family Holiday Association
|
For over 40 years, the Family Holiday Association has provided breaks for UK families struggling with issues such as disability, severe and sudden illness, bereavement, mental health issues and domestic violence.
The charity was founded on the belief that holidays are a lifeline, not a luxury, and the majority of families they help have never been on a family holiday before.
The majority of breaks they provide involve short trips to the British seaside. They also enable families to go on day trips – such as a simple day out at the seaside or local tourist attraction or museum – and occasionally other types of break, such as group trips.
All the families they support are referred to them by professionals in the community who they believe are best placed to identify those who will benefit the most. Their referral network includes teachers, social workers, health visitors and other charities.

To be eligible the family needs to be on a low income, have not been away in the last 4 years, and have at least one child under the age of 18.
If the family meets their criteria, they can only accept applications from a professional supporting the family like a social worker, teacher or support worker. All of their contact will be with the referrer as they do not contact families directly so the professional who refers will need to be willing to support the family throughout the process until they have gone on a break.
Family Holiday Association can also provide funding for organisations to take groups of families away together for a day out or short break.
