Emotionally Based School Avoidance

In response to a WPCC questionnaire that parent carers responded to early in 2024, Silverwood School generously facilitated a free workshop to support parent carers of children and young people with SEND in Wiltshire. This free workshop took place online on Monday 29th April with the aim of offering some support to families affected by Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA). These workshops were open to any Wiltshire parent carer and young people if they wanted to join alongside their parents, and were not restricted to parent carers of children currently attending Silverwood School. Over 50 people joined the session.

The session was kindly led by Emma Rossiter, who is a senior leader at Silverwood School. The session was designed to support parents and carers to understand more about: -

• EBSA and how schools, parents and carers can support young people.
• The anxiety cycle and how to take the steps to break free of this.
• The role of trauma, SEND and life experiences.
• Reasonable adjustments to support our children and young people.

If you attended the session, we would welcome your feedback if you have not had an opportunity to submit it. To submit your feedback, please click [FEEDBACK].
