Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is the main benefit for children with a condition or disability and helps to meet the extra costs that you might have as a result of your child's disability.
For a clear description of how the benefit works and what you can apply for as a parent or carer of a child or young person with special educational needs and/or disability, see the DLA page of the Contact a Family website. For the most up-to-date and accurate official information about the benefit, see the DLA pages of the GOV.UK website.
If you wish to make a claim for Disability Living Allowance, you can order a claim form from the Benefits Enquiry Line, which is on 0345 712 3456. You can also apply online here.
Personal Independence Payment
From 8 April 2013, a new benefit called Personal Independence Payment (PIP) replaces DLA for disabled people aged 16 to 64.
