The Blue Apple Theatre Company Winchester “Changes” Performance June 15th – 17th 2017
Founded in 2005, Blue Apple is an ambitious theatrical company that supports performers with learning disabilities to present high quality productions to the widest possible audience – performing and touring theatre, dance and film within a variety of large and small scale venues. Blue Apple is committed to the development of integrated and meaningful opportunities within the arts for people with learning disabilities to raise the ceiling of expectation and advocate for the development of a more inclusive and equal society.
The large ensemble cast is comprised of experienced local actors with learning disabilities who have previously performed and toured extensively throughout the south of England – as well as treading the boards professionally at Shakespeare’s Globe theatre in London in 2016.
This year’s show, titled ‘Changes’, is based on Greek myths that focus on many profound areas of human nature through the characters of classic gods, heroes and villains. As well as using entertaining metaphors to tackle some of the challenges that people with learning disabilities face in society, the play also explores significant life experiences that are universal to everyone.

The increase in confidence gained through stage performances has helped Blue Apple members to enhance their social skills, communication and wellbeing - and to achieve public recognition for their creative talents. The company received considerable attention following a Channel 4 News feature about its performances at Shakespeare Globe in 2016, as well as being the subject of the acclaimed televised documentary ‘Growing Up Downs’.
