Wiltshire High Needs Strategic Review

Wiltshire Council are about to begin a strategic review of support, services and provision for children and young people with high needs, (special educational needs and/or disability, or SEND). This is in partnership with an organisation called Isos Partnership.

[Isos Partnership Website]

In the first stage of this review, Isos are keen to gather feedback from a broad range of colleagues across the local area; parent carers and young people are essential colleagues to include in this review. In order to hear from parents and carers across the county, in partnership with the Wiltshire Parent Carer Council (WPCC), Isos will be facilitating three workshops in localities across Wiltshire.

The aim of these workshops will be to hear from parents and carers about their experience of accessing support and services for their children, understanding what is working well, and hearing what is needed to improve support for children and young people with SEND and other high needs in the local area. We hope that many parents and carers are able to attend one of these three workshops.

This review is not part of the current extended special school consultation focussing on investing £20m into special school education, but it will help to inform decisions about how to meet the wide range of needs of children with SEND across Wiltshire, including those who might attend mainstream schools and Resources Bases etc.

It is not too late to book - we hope that many parents and carers are able to attend one of these three workshops.

If you would like to attend one of these workshops, please contact: Helen Mountain: helen.mountain@wiltshire.gov.uk or telephone: 01225 713843 to confirm which workshop you wish to attend, by Wednesday 8 May 2019.

Not Able to Attend?
If you are not able to attend one of the workshops, but would like to contribute your views in confidence to the review, please complete the online survey, which can be found [here]. It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

The survey will remain open until the end of this half term; the survey will close on 28th May, after the bank holiday weekend. To ensure as many responses as possible are captured from parents and carers, if you are attending one of the workshops, you are also encouraged you complete the online survey.

Isos will treat responses to the survey in complete confidence and will not attribute comments to individuals. They will, however, use the overall themes that come out of parents’ and carers’ responses to inform the outcomes of this review. Following these activities, Isos plan to continue to work closely with parents and carers to shape the findings of this review.
