WPCC's Event for Parent Carers of Early Years/ Primary-aged Children with SEND - Hold the Date!

The WPCC is busy planning its next Information Event which will take place on Friday 21st June 2019, at the Corn Exchange, Devizes, from 10am to 2pm.

This will be a free event aimed at parent carers of early years and primary aged children with Special Educational Needs and/ or disabilities (SEND), and we welcome attendance from practitioners, professionals and anyone else interested in accessing information relevant to this age group of children.

Although the programme is still in development, we are hoping to run workshops on:-

  • Managing Challenging Behaviour
  • Support with Sleep and Continence
  • A parent's journey from early years into school - what I learned along the way

There will also be a Market Place with approximately 40 stand holders providing information across a range of early years and primary services. Some of the stands already conformed are: SEND Transport, Portage, Fostering, Library Service, Continence Service, Adaptive Martial Arts, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Learning Disability Health Service, representatives of Wiltshire Council's SEND Team, and representatives of Wiltshire Council's Childcare Team. We expect this list to grow as we are receiving more bookings from stand holders every day.

Enhancing this event will be our FREE café which has proven very popular at our other recent events. This enables parent carers to sit and take a break, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and some cake at any point during the morning, while you absorb information around you in the Market Place. As at our other information events, a free buffet lunch will also be provided, and parent carers will be able to claim travel expenses, car parking costs and childcare.

We are also welcoming preschool children to attend this event with their parent carers, and we have arranged a children's entertainer so that young children can enjoy some free entertainment under the supervision of their parents, at any point during the event.

Please hold this date in your diary and spread the news to anyone who would be interested in attending - it will be great way for parents of young children with SEND to begin to understand some of the information and support available in Wiltshire.

We anticipate booking opening soon - watch this space.
