Befriending Lonely or Isolated Parent Carers – Could You Help?

As we make our way through the latest lockdown, keeping in touch with people if you are feeling lonely and isolated has never been more important. To help support parent carers who are struggling, the WPCC is hoping to trial setting up a volunteer telephone befrienders scheme. The WPCC volunteer telephone befriending trial would link volunteer befrienders who are parent carers of children or young people with SEND, with other parent carers in Wiltshire who may be feeling lonely or isolated.

As a volunteer telephone befriender, you would receive training and induction, regular support and supervision and you will be able to claim the cost of telephone calls. The role is simply about providing friendship over the phone only, you will not be expected to provide counselling, advice or signposting support. No experience is necessary and you wouldn’t need to commit to more than about half an hour a week.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and develop WPCC's trial scheme, and thanks to a kind donation by the WPCC's office landlord, the WPCC will give each volunteer befriender a voucher as a gesture of thanks for their time and commitment.
