Family and Community Learning Team – Courses for Dec 2020/Jan 2021

The Family and Community Learning Team have courses available during December 2020/ January 2021 to support journeys back to work, families with wellbeing and helping children at home.

Click on the following link to see courses for family wellbeing, helping children with their learning and an English course for speakers of other languages: December/January course calendar

There are also ‘Boost’ courses available to help start the search for work – click here to take a look at what’s on offer.

The Enhance Your English and Manage Your Maths courses have been developed as many learners have expressed a need to brush up on various areas of English and/or maths. There are five courses for each subject and learners can attend them separately – you will get the best support if you attend them all. However, if you want to attend just one or two – that’s fine. If you are applying for a job, planning to go to college (an Access course possibly), want to help your children or planning to do Functional Skills, this is a great opportunity. Tutors provide good signposting to ensure that if you want to progress to a qualification, you will be well advised about options.

There are a lot of support courses for families/adults – two good routes to help are the Discovering Confidence (Tuesday 15 December) and Confidence and New Directions (5 x week course 22 December) – 6 weeks to build up confidence. There is a helpful reading/English route: Helping my Child with Reading (Monday 7 December) leading into Helping my Child Learn English (5 x week course 14 December) – a really useful route for adults to be one step ahead of the children and learning about how to support skills for school – and beyond!

The ongoing Boost courses are good for those who are looking for employment or want to brush up their CV and understanding the job market before they need to start searching.

Please note that there is an online English course for speakers of other languages (ESOL) for ESOL learners who want to brush up on their skills. As it is delivered online, they will need to be able to be confident with English – it’s not for starters, but those who want to polish up their speaking/language skills. The Family and Community Learning team can advise on a needs basis.

Courses can be accessed on a smart phone, tablet or laptop. If you would like to take part but do not have digital equipment or are maybe a bit unsure of it, please contact the Family and Community Learning Team on 01225 770478 and they can discuss how they can help. They also offer a first steps short session if you want to feel more confident about accessing a course.

You can use the above telephone number to book onto a course or [click here] to book online.
