Community Paediatrics in the North and East of Wiltshire

The WPCC has been asked to help promote the following information:-

Virgin Care began providing Community Children’s Health Services in Wiltshire from 1st April 2016 on behalf of Wiltshire Council, NHS England and NHS Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group. These services remain part of the NHS, and remain free-at-the-point of use just as they were previously with many of the same staff providing the same services.

The community paediatrics service for children in the East and North of Wiltshire did not transfer to Virgin Care on 1st April and has continued to be provided by Great Western Hospital. They may have already written to you explaining that this is due to change, and the services will transfer to Virgin Care over the next month.

Virgin Care is currently working closely with Great Western Hospital to transfer the service, and ensure minimal disruption. However, this transfer will mean some changes if you live in the East and North of Wiltshire:-

  • The paediatrician your child currently sees at Great Western Hospital, Tidworth and Savernake will change to an equally qualified, new paediatrician who is employed by Virgin Care
  • Where possible, they will continue to run clinics at the same location but you will be offered a wider range of clinics which may be closer to your home

Clinical safety and continuity of care is a priority for both Great Western Hospital and Virgin Care, and they have received a discharge summary which includes details of your child’s healthcare needs from Great Western Hospital. You will be offered an appointment with your community paediatric team at the earliest opportunity.

While Virgin Care’s aim is to ensure that there is minimal disruption, they are working with Wiltshire Parent Carer Council to offer Question and Answer workshop sessions on 19th, 20th, and 21st September where you can ask questions; this is in addition to a wider Health Information event on 14th October – further details can be found on the WPCC Events update. If you have registered with the WPCC, you will be on their mailing list, and will receive details of these, and other events etc. through their weekly Update newsletters.
