We're also willing to bet that you are getting tired of doing this!
Guess what? Things are CHANGING!
In 2007, Government made disabled children a national priority following a review it undertook about services for disabled children. The results revealed that in many parts of the UK, services were not meeting the needs of disabled children, young people OR their families.
In particular, families said they need improved SHORT BREAK services, young people want a better experience during TRANSITION and parents want more support with CHILDCARE.
So, in response to this, central Government launched a 3 year programme called
'Aiming High for Disabled Children'.
What's it all about?
In a nutshell, Aiming High for Disabled Children (AHDC) is the Government's plan to transform services nationally. The programme sets out its intentions on how they propse to improve service provision across the board for disabled children and their families, enhancing equality and opportunities for them.
To support this programme, Government agreed to give each local authority extra money to help them develop and provide better services - but more importantly, AHDC sets out clear expectations on local authorities to work with parents and carers in developing better services!
THAT'S WHERE WE COME IN!
The voice of parents and carers across Wiltshire is having a REAL influence on how services are provided by the local authority - Wiltshire Council and NHS. Professionals and parents are working together to ensure services and support are meeting the needs of our disabled children and our families.
