Who is leading on Short Breaks

at the local authority?

My name is Susan Tanner, and I am the person with lead responsibility for delivering a transformation in Short Break Services in Wiltshire, as part of the 'Aiming High for Disabled Children' programme.

We – at Wiltshire Council and NHS Wiltshire – want to make sure that we deliver short break services that are nothing short of excellent!  We are in the process of putting together a plan that will help us to achieve this goal over the next two years.

In the past, short break provision for disabled children and young people in Wiltshire has been somewhat limited and fairly inflexible.  Future short breaks are being shaped around  and  focused on the needs of the whole family - to do this we are working with parents and carers, disabled children and young people, who are all involved in designing, planning and delivering better services.

                            How YOU can help

We are working very closely with the Wiltshire Parent Carer Council, as well as other organisations, who continually feedback to us the wider views of parents and carers of disabled children and young people, about the services we provide.  This give us a clearer picture of common issus for families; we learn what is working well and where improvements need to be made.

By talking to parents and carers about their experiences of current provision and the needs of their children and families, the Wiltshire Parent Carer Council gathers information which is fed back to us through regular meetings - so YOUR VIEWS REALLY CAN INFLUENCE CHANGE!

With a membership of over 250 parents and carers, the Wiltshire Parent Carer Council is able to be truly representative of a diverse range of disabilities and needs.

I know you are all very busy people but your comments are very important to me

TOGETHER, we really can make a difference.
