WILTSHIRE LOCAL OFFER for 2012-13  is coming soon!

for Children & Young People 0-17yrs with a Disability

and/or Special Educational Needs

 

One of the ways that Wiltshire Council offers short breaks to children and young people with a disability and/or special educational needs is through the Local Offer.

 

What is it?

The Local Offer is a menu of short break options aimed at those children and young people who require additional support to access a short break because of their disability and/or special educational needs.  

 

Designed in consultation with parents and carers, the Local Offer enables families to choose the type of short break that works best for them.                                                               

                                                                                                                   

When is it available?                            

Services provided under the Local Offer take effect from the 1st April one year, until 31st March the next. 

 

Information Leaflets and application forms are available online and hard copies are made available to families via schools (both in and out of county).

Who can apply - eligibility?

Applications are welcome from children and young people who are resident in Wiltshire, ie those areas of the county covered by Wiltshire local authority (this excludes Swindon).  Families can easily identify if their child is eligible to apply by checking the access criteria under the age of their child.  Further information about this can be found on page 3 of the booklet.

What are the options?

Depending on the age of the child/young person there is a choice of up to four options of short breaks to choose from. Further information for this year to follow shortly.

 

What do you get?

Families are encouraged to apply early to receive the full entitlement of money and/or hours, depending on the option they choose.  Further information to follow.

 

How to you apply

Further information to follow for this year, although in previous years families have applied directly to Wiltshire Council Short Breaks Team, using a simple Registration Form.   Further information to follow.

If your child does not meet the access criteria...

they can access activities available to ALL children and young people in Wiltshire, referred to as 'Universal Services'.  These include leisure centres, swimming pools, youth clubs, theatres, playgrounds, etc.

 

Wiltshire Council also provides services especially designed to meet the needs of children and young people who require additional support to enable them to access a short break.  These are called 'Targeted Services' and include sports activities, youth clubs, drumming and music sessions, animation workshops, etc.

Appeals

If your child does not meet the access criteria for the Local Offer appeals can be made using a Common Assessment Framework, referred to as CAF.
