What do we do?
The Wiltshire Parent Carer Council (WPCC) works primarily with the local authorities, Wiltshire Council and NHS Wiltshire, to look at ways of improving services and support to disabled children, young people and their families.
Some of us are 'Parent Representatives' – we attend regular planning meetings at Wiltshire Council, where we represent wider views of many.We are able to do this because we gather information from parents and carers all over Wiltshire about their experiences of services - the good and the bad!
For example, some parents and carers come to consultation events where we discuss and brainstorm various issues together. Others choose to either email or telephone about the difficulties they are facing - this could be anything from trying to get a direct payment or not being able to find an activity or sports club in their local area where their child could enjoy themselves for a couple of hours (while the rest of the family enjoys a much earned break!), to having a child waiting 6 months to be measured up for a new wheelchair!
Being in contact with so many parents and carers means that common issues can be easily identified - we then feed our findings into the meetings we attend with the local authorities.
Keeping you informed
We aim to keep parents and carers informed of developments and the progress being made as a result of their input, through meetings and our quarterley newsletters.
