| INVOLVING PARENTS AND CARERS IN SEN PROVISION This event is for parents and carers of children & young people up to 25yrs In May this year we teamed up with Wiltshire Council and the ASK Parent Partnership Service to hear the views of parents and carers on the Green Paper 'Support & Aspiration : A new approach to SEN and Disabilities' and to establish how parents and carers wanted to engage in future with all those involved in meeting the special educational needs of our children and young people, referred to as 'parent participation'.
In response to what parents and carers told us, we held the first in a series of events which aims to give lots of information and guidance on roles and responsibilities within SEN, across all stages of the 'Code of Practice', from Early Years settings through to Local Authority Officers. Once again, this event is being jointly facilitated by lead SEN professionals from Wiltshire Council, ASK's Parent Partnership Service and the Wiltshire Parent Carer Council (WPCC).
This was a fantastic opportunity to network and talk directly to SEN professionals and representatives within small groups and on an individual basis. We also learned more about an SEN and Disability Information Project from Contact A Family's Development Officer, Cathy Hunte. Anna Walker, Regional Representative of the National Network of Parent Carer Forums, brought us up to speed with what is happening nationally around involving parents and carers in developing services for our children and families.

| A PRACTIAL GUIDE to Services Provided by the Children's Disability Team (CDTs) Parents and carers who have children and young people whose needs are quite significant or complex may well require extra help and support from a social worker or a occupational therapist based within the Children's Disability Teams or 'CDTs'. Following an event we held in June this year, parents and carers told us they wanted more information to help them better understand who is eligible for a service from the CDTs, the role of the Social Worker, the assessment process, how a family's needs are identified and what services and support is available (eg. direct payments, overnight respite). This event aims to offer a practical guide to the CDTs, an opportunity to share your experiences with the Head of Service and to meet other parents and carers. | | 13 December Wiltshire Health Watch | Wiltshire Health Watch

| 'Meaningful Futures' EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION EVENT young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities, in the world of work Aimed at raising employment aspirations for young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities in Wiltshire, parents, carers and professionals were invited to find out more about opportunities available in Wiltshire, as well as which organisations support young people with learning skills, finding a job and all that comes with going to work. A host of speakers, including Wiltshire Employment Support Team (WEST), Community Connecting, Shaw Trust, Job Centre Plus and Wiltshire College told us more about local employment options and participants really appreciated the open floor question and answer sessions and having plenty of time to get around all the displays where they were able to pick up lots of information. Jane Scott, Lead of Wiltshire Council very much regretted not being able to make this event, due to unforeseen circumstances that morning. Jane Scott looks forward to seeing you all, however, at the annual 'Aiming High in Wiltshire' event to be held on the 14th March.
