Wiltshire Reviews Services
for Disabled Children and Adults (DCA)

You will know from our recent updates that Wiltshire Council is currently looking at the way it provides services for disabled children and adults - this is called the Disabled Children & Adults Review.

The Council's approach to this review is driven by the voice of the very people who use their services; their 'customers'.

For parents and carers, this is a very real opportunity for us to ensure services across social care, education and health are the best they can be, by meeting the needs of our children and families.

Parent Carers - get your voice heard

In collaboration with the Council,

the WPCC recently conducted several consultations to find out what parents and carers generally think about existing services for disabled children and those with special educational needs.

The feedback we gather is continually fed into the review process by WPCC Parent Representatives who attend meetings of Wiltshire Council's  review board.

Further Information

“The council has started work on two major projects in children and adults services.

These are called the ‘Disabled Children and Adults Review’ and the ‘Help to Live at

Home Review'. Both reviews aim to improve the experiences of children, adults

and carers who require support.

The projects will also ensure that any changes to services can meet demands that may arise in the future. This is an

exciting time to really make a difference to the lives of people in Wiltshire.”

Sue Redmond, Director of Community Service, and Carolyn Godfrey, Director for Children and Education

Where are we in the process?

As the review progresses, we are being asked for more detailed information about the experiences of parent carers in relation to specific services, including their ideas on how these can be improved to better meet the needs of their children and families in future.

We have just recently (22nd July) closed a series of surveys on specific services and are in the process of collating the results.  Services included the following:

Children with Disabilities Team                            Connexions                           Early Years Team

Special Educational Needs Service (SEN)               Occupational Therapists         Hearing Impairments Service

Sensory Impairments Service
